You can drink your tea and wear it too! White Tea has an amazing amount of antioxidants and it is good for us from the inside out! Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it’s time you treat it as such… give it the love it deserves.
A little bit about White Tea: White Tea leaves are picked early in the season when the buds are fresh and tender, then the leaves are gently dried. White tea undergoes the least processing – the leaves are simply withered and dried. This method maintains higher levels of antioxidants, polyphenols, and vitamins, while also yielding much less caffeine than the other tea varieties.
Making a poultice or compress of White Tea to use as a mask and your skin will thank you! For more on what a poultice or compress is you can refer to my DIY – Herbal Mask Posting. When making a White Tea poultice/mask I like to use honey, I suppose because most people drink tea with honey, why not in your mask too! Also honey will add more punch to this mask, it will up the benefits and antioxidant power even more. My favorite honey to use on the face is Manuka Honey, but any honey will do. If I don’t use Manuka I at least go for local, raw and organic if possible.
If you don’t have any honey on hand, but still want to make a White Tea mask then you can use just water, the tea is amazing either way.
Benefits of honey on your skin: Honey is full of antioxidants, it cleanses, nourishes, hydrates and leaves skin smooth and glowing.
A little bit about Manuka Honey: Manuka honey, produced in New Zealand by bees that pollinate the Manuka bush, is one of the most unique and beneficial forms of honey in the world. There are many Manuka honey uses that range from healing sore throats, eczema, acne and digestive illnesses, to curing Staph infections and gingivitis. What makes Manuka honey different is its amazing nutritional profile. Regular raw honey is already known for its tremendous nutritional and immune boosting abilities. Yet with Manuka honey, the nutritional content is up to 4 times that of normal flower honeys. -Dr Axe for the whole article go to https://draxe.com/manuka-honey-benefits-uses/.
While we are at it, I might as well mention I also added Lavender flowers to mine. This gives it an amazing scent which helps make this process relaxing and adds to the anti-bacterial and healing components. It is not necessary to add the flowers, but I happen to have some on hand and went for it. White Tea and Honey alone will be an amazing mask though.
I have made this mask (for sale contact me). Below I offer instructions to use it as a poultice or a compress.
- For a poultice, start with a couple heavy pinches of dried white tea. If you happen to have it in tea bags then just empty the contents of the tea bag(s). (optional) add a pinch of lavender flowers. You can add more than a couple of pinches to make a larger batch, but it won’t take more than a tea bag(s) worth to create a one time mask.
- Toss the pinches of tea in a grinder, much like a clean coffee grinder to create a powder. If you are using the contents of tea bag(s) and it is finely chopped/ground you can skip this, but if you have true bulk tea leaves you will want to mulch them.
- In a small dish add about 1-2 heaping Tablespoon(s) of your ground powder and about 1 Tablespoon of hot water to just moisten the tea to start to step and release it’s benefits. If you think you need a bit more water then add another Teaspoon, but avoid making this too soupy.
- Then add 1-3 Tablespoons of honey to create a nice, some what, thin, paste consistency. add 1 Tablespoon at a time so you can control the consistency.
- If you are doing just water and skipping the honey then add about 1-3 Tablespoons of hot water to create a nice paste consistency add 1 tablespoon at a time so you can control the consistency. For doing a facial mask (poultice) you don’t want too much water which will make it soupy and not stick to your face.
- If using super hot boiled water, then of course make sure the tea mask has cooled slightly before applying to your skin! BE MINDFUL!
- Once you have the consistency of a mask via water or honey apply with a brush or finger tips to your face in a thick layer for efficacy.
- Let the mask set until it dries and becomes tight on your skin. You will know what I mean by tight when you feel it. Honey doesn’t fully dry and crack like clay, but you will feel when it is tightening. About 10-20 minutes.
- Remove with water and a wash cloth. My favorite way to remove is to just hop in the shower and let the shower wash it away. So wear easy to remove clothes or a house coat when applying the mask.
- After removal/rinse then apply a good oil or oil serum. I applied my serum (that I sell, contact me to purchase) and some tallow (which I also sell).
How to do this mask compress style (see my DIY – Herbal Mask for more information).
- I didn’t take pictures of because as you already saw in my pictures above I did poultice style myself!!!
- To do a compress style you can use the same mixture I used above, even with the honey, but you would want to dilute it with hot water and make it it super soupy or into a tea! So a lot more water, probably a cup or more.
- If using HOT water, make sure it cools to almost room temperature before using on your skin! Yikes, Ouch, be smart and sensible!
- Then soak a cheese cloth or muslin cloth in it the tea/soup to take on the properties of the dried herbs. And then lay the, cooled, cloth over your skin for 10-20 minutes and sets in. You will still get the benefits of the herbs, but this version is a bit more gentle for those with very reactive skin or are hesitant to try the full mask.
